A Miami-Dade Sheriff's deputy died after he was shot during an altercation with a subject while responding to a traffic crash on Friday afternoon, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said.
Deputy Devin Jaramillo, 27, was shot shortly before 4 p.m. in the area of the 12200 block of Southwest 128th Street.

Cordero said Jaramillo, who worked in the Kendall District, had responded to a traffic crash before he was "brutally attacked and he was murdered."
Bystanders called 911, deputies responded and gave him first aid before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, the sheriff said.
"Today is not okay, what happened today in Miami-Dade County and to our deputy was not okay, and today will never be okay," Cordero-Stutz said. "I ask our community to pray for the family of our fallen deputy, to pray for all of us because we are a family and we are hurting."

No other details about the subject, who was found dead at the scene, were released.
Jaramillo had previously worked for the Coral Gables Police Department and his father is a retired Miami-Dade Police detective.
"He's not only a deputy, he's a son, he's a brother, and he is a friend," an emotional Cordero-Stutz said. "What happened to our deputy is not okay. He gave the ultimate sacrifice, his life, defending us, defending you. And we need to understand as a society and as a community that that is just unacceptable."
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a large law enforcement presence at the scene along with fire rescue crews and armored SWAT vehicles.
A portion of a parking lot was closed off by police tape and a parked car appeared to be covered by a yellow tarp.
A source close to the investigation tells NBC6 the deputy was dispatched to a crash when one of the parties attacked him. After the gunfire, the assailant went back to a green Mustang and shot himself to death, the source said.
There was a second person at the crash scene who was being questioned, but he is not being considered as a suspect, and there’s no indication he will be charged, according to the source.
Footage also showed Coral Gables Police, Florida Highway Patrol troopers and FBI agents at the scene.
It was later learned that the sheriff's office was investigating whether the deputy was shot with his own gun during the altercation.
A large number of officers had gathered at HCA-Florida Kendall Hospital, where Jaramillo was taken. By nighttime, even more officers had gathered for a procession to honor the fallen officer.
Video posted by Only in Dade showed law enforcement responding to the scene earlier, some in defensive positions with weapons drawn.
Authorities had the area around the scene blocked off and a number of nearby roadways were closed.
Southwest 120th Street and the Florida's Turnpike were closed, while Southwest 122nd Avenue was shut down from Southwest 120th Street to Southwest 128th Street. Southwest 128th Street was also closed between Southwest 122nd Avenue and Southwest 125th Avenue.
